Welcome!
This course will show you what Scratch is and how Video Games use Speed and Variables.
SPEED!

Videogames often have characters moving at a high speed. Like Crash Bandicoot or Mario!
Sometimes we want to change how fast these characters are moving or the enemies around them. For example in Mariokart tracks have speed boosts for racers.
For 2D Cartoon characters like old Mario we call them Sprites.
We have to chage how fast the sprite is moving by changing it's Speed.

The instructor will explain what Speed is and how fast the orange cat is going, if you have any questions feel free to ask!
Scratch
Let's go to this website, please left click this blue link - - - > scratch.mit.edu/projects/721294924
This screen is the video game! In this game the cat chases the dog, his name is Tobi and the cat's name is Tigger. When the cat catches the dog you lose some high score points, but the dog can pickup kibble-bits to run faster.
Variables
Click the blue button that says "See Inside"
This screen will appear, click on Tobi the blue dog;
Woah! Alot of stuff showed up on the screen, but don't worry because we are only looking at where it says "Speed" like tobi_speed and tigger_speed.
These "Speeds" are called "Variables", but what is a Variable?
A Variable is like a sticky note
Variables store the value of things so the computer can remember how much they cost. Tobi's speed is set to 5 and Tigger's is set to 5. The highscore is set to 0 until you start playing the game and earning points.
Winning!
Click the green flag to start playing, use the mouse to avoid Tigger and collect the Bacon flavored chessy poofs. See how high you can get your score! You can also edit the program by clicking "See Inside" and changing the blocks on the left-hand side.
